MADALA THE MASTER MUSICIAN!

Anyone who has lived in Durban and has not heard Madala Kunene play guitar and sing has lost out on an important aspect of our east coast city life. Over the twenty years or so that I have attended his concerts and collaborations I have never ceased to be astounded at the particular blend of sounds that he composes. With strong traditional anchors, he takes the music to wherever he fancies. His rhythms and melodic lines are those of a contemporary shaman, heady and trance inducing.

TRIBUTE TO SA LEGENDS

Sandile Gontsana takes the stage with huge energy. As a singer he has been carving a career for himself with his beautiful voice and his innovative improvisational style. He also radiates a celebrity personality which, along with his snazzy dress sense and warm interaction with his audience, has popularised his shows. He tends to theme his concerts and this time round he paid tribute to his favourite South African musicians and it was to his credit that he did not go the well-trodden clichéd route.
